Being the Hip Hop fan that I am, I was happily astounded that both Pretty Lights and Girl Talk are not only playing Rock The Bells, but are headlining each weekend on a different day.
Pretty Lights will be doing a set dedicated to his newest release, A Color Map of the Sun, which is one of my favorite releases this year. I will be formulating a top 25 list in Hip Hop music this year and I can guarantee so far that “Around The Block” with Talib Kweli is easily in my top 10. Not to mention that his Etta James sample for his song “Finally Moving” in 2006 is legendary to me especially when Flo Rida and Avicii have used his sample for bigger songs.
Girl Talk is doing more of a general set for Rock The Bells. He hasn’t put out an album since All Day (2010), but for me, it’s been on constant replay. He’s called the lawsuit waiting to happen for a reason. When someone is able to mix Missy Elliot and The Ramones together and make it convincing, you get an automatic pass in my book. What makes me laugh about both of them is that they were both born the same year which is icing on the cake for me with the similarities that are presented in both of their music.
