The “Team Blake” Voice contestants are back and better than ever. The 2Steel Girls new single “Mad Black Magic” is definitely something different when it comes to country music. Especially for the fact that the duo consists of Allison and Krystal Steel who are mother and daughter.
Did you know that Broken Records Magazine conducted the band’s first interview? Since then the duo has a bigger fan base than ever and continues to succeed doing what they love.
“Mad Black Magic” is country but it also has a catchy rock sound to it, which I have to say caught my attention. Any country song with a great guitar riff sounds cool to me.
Their new single and video for “Mad Black Magic,” seemed like a powerful girl anthem to me as Allison and Krystal are sitting in a car describing a guy who may have played too many mind games, and now they’re sick of falling for the guy anymore.
The chorus then breaks in, “You had me under your spell / You played your cards / Played them well / But your mad black magic ain’t workin…” lyrically proving they won’t let anyone push them around.
Throughout the scenes in the video a person in a black cloak keeps appearing in a room with Polaroid photos of Allison and Krystal as if they were watching or knew them. In another scene the girls are then walking around in the woods with flashlights as if they’re looking for someone. Putting the pieces together, I had the idea that they may be possibly looking for the person who had the photos of them. At one point they find a cabin (that may be were the cloaked person was) and set the place on fire.
I’m not sure who exactly the person in the black cloak was the whole video, but I felt like it could have been a symbol for the guy playing mind games no longer being in their future. Or in other words, being burned out of their life for good.
After hearing two other unreleased songs from their upcoming album Mad Black Magic, I got the idea of what Allison and Krystal enjoy when it comes to music. One of the songs was a bit more country and slow with powerful lyrics, while the other came back consisting of a country/rock sound like “Mad Black Magic” did with a message standing up for girls. In the slower song I liked the lyrics, “When your dancing with the devil, then you best be good on your feet.” It lyrically brought me back to “Mad Black Magic” because in that song they’re talking about spells, while this one mentions a devil.
Allison and Krystal have this interesting way of describing a person with supernatural qualities which is different to me in country music, while they still successfully stand up for women being powerful at the same time.
If they keep this up, they’ll be sure to be the next big country duo in the music industry with their sassy personalities powerful attitudes.
The duo wants to sell 10,000 at least copies in two weeks on iTunes. If you’d like to be a part of that the link is HERE: https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/mad-black-magic-single/id986812757
